Unit information
Indonesia has one of the region’s most rapidly developing economies, with much social and cultural diversity across the archipelago. An understanding of contemporary issues that are important to this nation is crucial for anyone interested in working or doing business in the country; Australian-based companies which collaborate or trade with Indonesian companies or government, or those who wish to, for Australian schools or government departments such as Defence, Foreign Affairs and Trade, Immigration and the AFP, and the media.
This unit is for students whose language skills are at an advanced level. The aim is to develop your ability to read and analyse complex issues related to Indonesian culture and society. You will also develop your ability to conduct independent research. The assessment will be based on an independent research project.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- critically evaluate sources, values and validity of information and use information in critical and creative thinking;
- demonstrate critical thinking and a developed understanding of Indonesian culture and society in different regions of the archipelago, and of Indonesian diversity; and
- apply technical skills to plan and execute a piece of research with some independence.
