Gain a solid grounding in the scientist-practitioner model with this unit, designed to equip you with the skills needed to keep pace with research, innovation and changing practice in psychology.
Being able to critically evaluate and apply the evidence base to inform culturally responsive clinical practice is critical for your professional career. This unit will help you to hone your ability to use evidence to inform your practice for clients across the lifespan, ensuring you are able to incorporate best practice into your treatment plans and outcome monitoring.
Exploring a range of clinical scientific methods, you will develop in-depth understanding of how to critically evaluate the current research trends and literature and apply evidence into practice.
The unit also offers an opportunity to extend your critical thinking and research skills, as you investigate an individual research question relevant to psychology.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate critical appraisal and evaluation of the scientific literature to inform practice;
- understand and apply the evidence base for therapies and assessments across cultures;
- synthesise and critically review published research findings; and
- investigate a substantive research question in the field of clinical psychology.
