Candidates

While Schools and supervisors are expected to provide many forms of support and guidance, the ultimate responsibility for managing the project and obtaining the degree rests with the candidate. Your first task is to develop a research plan. Your research plan should be steadily developed or refined over the first 6 months of candidature, so consider the following issues from time to time:

  • What is the title of your research project?
  • What are your primary research questions?
  • What research and/ or experimental method(s) will you use?
  • Why these ones?
  • What types of data are you aiming to collect?
  • How will this data enable you to answer your research questions?

Note that your answers to these questions will change and develop as you find out more about your topic so it's worth recording the date on all your notes - this will enable some degree of 'version control'.

You are also required to understand and adhere to the Code of Conduct for Research Policy.
