Privacy Collection Notice
Your information is managed in compliance with the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act) and the Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act). Your personal information is being collected by the University of New England (UNE) or its agents for the purpose of:
- Assessing your eligibility for support services and/or reasonable study adjustments based on your selected registration type (Disability/Health Condition, Carer, Elite Athlete Program, Incarcerated Students Support, Students on Humanitarian Visas Support, or Students Requiring Adjustments Due to Work).
- Developing and implementing a Study Access Plan (SAP) (if applicable) outlining reasonable study adjustments to support your participation at UNE.
- Providing you with relevant information, resources, and services related to your registration and participation at UNE.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our support services and programs.
- Complying with our legal and regulatory obligations.
Your personal information may be used by UNE in the future to inform you about other relevant support services, programs, and initiatives offered by UNE that may be of interest to you and align with the support you are currently registered for.
You will have the opportunity to opt out of receiving these communications at any time.
For the purpose of supporting the implementation of your proposed adjustments, your details may be provided to:
- Staff within the Student Accessibility & Wellbeing Office (SAWO) who are directly involved in providing support services and/or adjustments.
- The UNE Examinations and eAssessments Team (if your Study Access Plan includes recommendations for examination adjustments) for the purpose of supporting the implementation of your approved examination adjustments.
- Your Unit Coordinator or relevant academic or professional faculty staff, as necessary to facilitate your approved study adjustments.
- Relevant external third parties, such as external medical professionals, disability support providers, national sporting bodies, correctional facilities, refugee support organisations, employers, or similar, so that they can provide medical assessments, offer specialised support services, verify elite athlete status, coordinate support within correctional facilities, provide verification of visa status, or document work requirements, on UNE’s behalf.
- Specific to Disability/Health Condition Registrations: Health information may be shared with other University staff outside of SAWO only if you consent, if submitted via standard university communication channels, or if necessary to prevent a serious threat to life or health. The information shared will relate only to your approved study adjustments and will not include any diagnostic or personal health information unless you have provided explicit consent for this to occur.
- Specific to Carer Registrations: Your status as a carer will only be included within your SAP with your explicit consent.
- Specific to Elite Athlete Program: Information provided for the Elite Athlete Program will only be shared with relevant staff within the program. You may also be asked to provide permission for us to contact your sporting organisation or coach to verify your eligibility. Please note that without this consent, we may be unable to proceed with your registration in the program.
- Specific to Incarcerated Students Support: Information provided by incarcerated students will only be shared with relevant staff within SAWO, unless explicit consent is given to communicate with external parties such as the Correctional Centre Education Officer.
- Specific to Students on Humanitarian Visas Support: Information provided for Students on Humanitarian Visas Support will only be shared with relevant staff within SAWO.
- Specific to Students Requiring Adjustments Due to Work: Information provided by students requesting adjustments due to work commitments will only be shared with relevant staff within SAWO, unless explicit consent is given to communicate with external parties such as employers.
- Your personal information will not be disclosed to any other third party without your consent unless required or permitted to do so by law.
