PASS@UNE - Peer Assisted Study Sessions

What is PASS@UNE?

PASS stands for Peer Assisted Study Sessions - these are regularly scheduled, out-of-class, student-led study sessions. Delivered through Zoom, PASS sessions are an informal space where students study together. It can help you feel more connected to the university and take away some of the isolation of studying alone. The sessions are hosted by trained PASS Leaders who are high-achieving students who have previously studied the unit.

About the sessions

During the session you will have an opportunity to meet with your classmates outside of class and engage together with the unit material. PASS Leaders guide you through study strategies while you revise content. Leaders promote their sessions as “guaranteed study time” and often say that 1 hour of study in PASS is like 3 hours on your own.

The PASS Leader will not reteach the content, instead they model the techniques and habits which helped them to succeed in the unit. Our Leaders can also share the many great UNE resources which have helped them throughout their study journey e.g. Academic Skills Office (ASO), UNE Dixson Library, Academic Advisors & more.

How can I participate?

PASS@UNE sessions are open to all students within the PASS@UNE units and are attended on a voluntary basis. These sessions are delivered through Zoom, allowing you to join from any location. Look for the PASS logo on your unit's myLearn Home page.

Further information

When and how are PASS sessions held?

Visit the PASS MyLearn site to view the sessions available for your units. PASS@UNE sessions run weekly throughout the trimester, and you can attend as many sessions as you like. Many units offer two PASS@UNE sessions each week.

PASS@UNE sessions take place using Zoom and are accessed through the PASS@UNE MyLearn site. All students who are part of these units automatically have access to the PASS@UNE MyLearn site.

What do you need for a PASS session?
  • A computer/device to access the Zoom sessions
  • Pen and paper to write any notes and tips
  • Relevant unit resources e.g., textbook, readings. It’s ok if you don’t have this handy, you can still join in!
Why should you attend PASS@UNE?
  • PASS sessions are available to you, no matter of your location because they are held via Zoom (some sessions are offered in a hybrid mode with on campus and online students working together).
  • PASS can help you to feel less isolated in your studies.
  • Our sessions are designed to be informal and flexible, giving you the opportunity to contribute in a way that suits you.
  • It's a chance to connect with other students in your course and the UNE community.
  • Sessions are led by current UNE students, who have studied the subject previously.
  • PASS@UNE is not just for students who feel like they are struggling. PASS@UNE is also for students who want to get the most out of their students and build a network of support with other students.
