Checklist for new candidates
Upon arrival in Australia (for international students only)
- Contact the International Office
- Set up a bank account
- Organise accommodation
Enrolment
- HDR Enrolment Form will need to be completed and submitted to the Graduate Research School.
A link to this form has been provided in your Offer of Admission. (Please note that you will not be able to access MyUNE, University email or other University IT systems until you are enrolled in your degree.) - If on campus, visit the Graduate Research School Office (Level 2, T.C Lamble Building) to complete the enrolment process
Your First Week of Candidature
- If you are on a scholarship, you need to complete the Bank Form that was included in your Scholarship Offer email and submit to the Graduate Research School via AskUNE ASAP.
- Set up your myune email. All UNE correspondence will be sent via this email address.
- Contact your Supervisors if you haven’t already.
- Request a computer through Technology and Digital Services via their Service Portal.
- Collect Student Card from the Security Office
Student ID cards are issued by UNE Safety & Security. If you haven’t already done so, you can apply for a Student ID Card online - cloud.UNE
As a HDR candidate, you have access to 500 gigabytes of cloud storage on Cloud.UNE (sign in with your UNE credentials). Cloud.UNE is the University’s highly secure, regularly backed-up enterprise storage solution for research data. Please be mindful that it is a policy requirement that all research data needs to be stored in this space. For further information about how to use this service, contact the Librarians or visit the Research Data Management webpage. - If you are an on campus student, you will be contacted by the School regarding a study space once it is ready
Check that you have building access (day and night) - Check that you have Library access
Your First Month into Candidature
- All students must complete the HDR RAP Integrity and Induction Course
- Undertake any Faculty or School specific myLearn inductions
After enrolment, you should have received information about your Faculty’s myLearn induction, if not please contact your school HDR Support Officer - Check with your supervisor if you need any discipline specific training such as Lab Training or SMARTFarm training.
- Student Supervisor Agreement should be completed by you and your supervisory team
It is essential that you maintain regular contact with your supervisors. The Graduate Research Committee requires all HDR students and their Supervisors to complete a Supervision Agreement Between Students and Supervisors within the first four weeks of starting your candidature of any HDR Program. This agreement will help establish a professional working relationship and set realistic expectations of you and of your supervisors. - Visit Student Online Learning: Advanced Research (SOL:AR)
SOL:AR will assist you in becoming a fully-fledged postgraduate student at UNE and inform you of vital resources available.
6 months into Candidature
- Confirmation of Candidature due at 6 months for full time candidates and 12 months for part-time
- Start looking at Ethics approval if required (allow plenty of time)
- You will receive an email about Progress Reporting – this is a very important process.
12 months into candidature
- 3 Minute Thesis
- Postgraduate conference
