If you have previously completed WORK300/WORK500, you cannot undertake the Work Practical Placement stream of this unit.

This unit is a repeatable unit, meaning that a student can complete this unit more than once. However, a student cannot complete a stream more than once.

Unit Description:

This unit is designed to provide students with an opportunity to refine their knowledge of the law or related policy in a practical setting. Students will be supervised and have opportunities to reflect on their experience. Experiential learning improves a students’ resilience, enhances emotional intelligence, and provides networking opportunities. Key skills and knowledge that may be augmented in undertaking this unit include research legal skills, presenting skills, verbal communications skills, professional ethics, teamwork, bargaining, mediation, writing, time management, planning, problem solving, and critical thinking.

As part of this unit, students can undertake the following:

  • Journal Editor – this will involve undertaking editorial duties for International Journal of Rural Law and Policy
  • Clinical/Practical work placement – work placement with a community legal service, a law firm, a court house, a government body, or other relevant host organisation nominated by the student. If you are completing this unit in your place of employment, the tasks performed as part of your placement should not be same as those that you would normally undertake as part of your paid employment.
  • AgLaw Centre Research Placement – completing research based activities for the Australian Centre for Agriculture and Law (AgLaw Centre)

Important Note: these offerings are subject to supervisor/host availability, therefore not all streams may be available in specified trimesters.

Please complete the Application Form at the bottom of this page. This form should then be submitted as an attachment via AskUNE. Once received by the School of Law, it will be assessed by the Head of School (or delegate). If the application is successful, the applicant will be enrolled in the unit.
