Focus your learning with Kumo Study

Kumo Study is a digital suite of executive functioning tools designed for ADHD and neurodivergent students. It’s built to support challenges like managing deadlines, getting started on tasks, staying focused, and switching between priorities. The platform includes tools to plan, prioritise, and keep on track, along with a sensory profile setup that tailors your study environment to how your brain works best. Think of it as a study toolkit you can open up anytime you need structure, focus, or a bit more calm while studying.

You can use your UNE student email to sign up to Kumo Study for free now! Use the link below to head to the Kumo website, click the "Install" button on the top right of the page and log in with your UNE email for free access.

How We Can Help

Once you’ve registered with us, we will work with you to develop a Study Access Plan (SAP) that outlines reasonable adjustments to allow equal access and participation in university life.

Types of adjustment might include:

Eligibility for these services is determined on an individual basis, upon review of the recommendations provided in your supporting documentation and through consultation with a Student Accessibility and Wellbeing Coordinator.

All adjustments documented must uphold the academic integrity and inherent requirements of the course.

You can be assured that all our correspondence with you and documentation you provide to us is strictly confidential and will remain within SAWO. For more information, please see Privacy & Consent.

How To Register

1. Obtain Supporting Documentation

Obtain the required supporting documents before you apply. These will need to be attached when you complete the online registration form.

2. Log into Student Assist

Log into the Student Assist portal with your UNE username (e.g., jsnow3) and password. Once logged in, select the My Requests tab on the left-hand side of your screen and select Create Request.

You will need to confirm that the details displayed are correct.

3. Complete Registration Form

Under the heading Current Students - Registration Forms select the registration form that matches your needs.

4. Consent

At the end of the registration form you will be asked to acknowledge you have read and understood the Privacy & Consent information.

5.Upload Supporting Documentation

Once you have successfully submitted your registration form, return to your student dashboard. From the menu on the left-hand side, select the My Documents, then select Upload File.

What Happens Next?

A SAWO team member will develop a Study Access Plan to meet your needs. If we have any questions, you'll receive a comment in Student Assist - log back in to reply.  When your SAP is developed, you'll receive an email asking you log in to Student Assist and approve the SAP.  Your approved SAP will then be automatically sent to your Unit Coordinators, other relevant academic staff and Exams team to implement your adjustments.

It’s also a good idea to check with your School or Faculty about how to apply for assignment extensions, as each area may have slightly different steps for making sure your adjustments are applied

See Student Assist @ UNE for detailed instructions on using and navigating your way around Student Assist, including screen captures.

Supporting Documents

To register with the Student Accessibility and Wellbeing Office, you’ll need to provide supporting documentation. Please select the heading below that matches your registration type to see what kinds of documentation are accepted.

Disability or Health Condition

UNE requires documentation from an approved health professional to understand how your condition may affect your studies.

It is preferred that the documentation is provided using the Health Professionals Report.

A health practitioner can include a doctor, as well as a psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dentist or other registered allied health professional. The documentation helps to verify your disability or health condition and provide the Student Accessibility and Wellbeing Coordinator with relevant and useful information in assessing appropriate study adjustments or accommodations.

Your Health Professional Report must be dated and signed by your relevant health or disability professional.

If you are unable to complete the Health Professional Report,  you can submit alternative documentation such as a letter or report from your treating health or disability professional. Please refer to Alternative Documentation Requirements or Alternative Documentation Requirements - Screen Reader Friendly Version for more details on what will be accepted, as well as a list of health professionals.

Carers

For students who are caring for a family member with a disability or health condition, UNE requires documentation to process your registration. This might include a letter of support from a treating health professional, Centrelink documentation, Carers NSW statement, or a previous Learning/Access plan from another institution.

When submitting a letter from a treating health professional, the documentation provided should come from a health professional or case worker who is familiar with either your health and/or the person you are caring for. The letter should be no more than 12 months and should:

  • Indicate your connection to the person you are caring for (e.g., full-time carer for Mary Joe).
  • State the health condition of the person you are caring for.
  • Outline the likely impact of your caring duties on your study.
  • Indicate the anticipated time frame of your caring role (we understand that this is often for the duration of your degree).

You may also ask your health professional or case worker to complete a Health Professionals Report.

If you also experience a health condition or disability in addition to your caring responsibilities, you may provide Health Professional documentation to request additional adjustments for your own condition.

Job Related Adjustments

Students eligible for a SAP with employment-related adjustments include:

  • Members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) (including reservists)
  • Emergency Services (such as police, customs, ambulance, and other emergency services)
  • Those working in Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) roles in any industry

Students should provide a letter or statement from their employer detailing their role and responsibilities, as well as any likelihood of unplanned or extended absences.

Students in Correctional Centres

If you are studying while in a correctional centre, you will need to provide the following to the Student Accessibility and Wellbeing Office (SAWO)

Authority to Act Form

  • Written permission via an Authority to Act Form for your Education Officer to manage your enrolment and access study materials on your behalf.

Enrolment Process:

  • The Education Officer will need to apply for admission on your behalf using the UNE online process.
  • Once your offer is accepted, the Education Officer can enrol you in units online.
  • To discuss a study plan, the Education Officer may contact UNE Student Connect on 02 6773 2000 (8am–6pm, Monday to Friday), as SAWO does not provide detailed course advice.

After Enrolment:

  • The Education Officer should contact SAWO at accessinclusion@une.edu.au so we can coordinate the next steps to develop a Study Access Plan (SAP) to support liaison with Unit Coordinators.

Additional Support

  • If you also experience a disability or health condition and are seeking additional adjustments, you may provide a Health Professionals Report.
Elite Athletes

To assess your eligibility for the Elite Athlete Program (EAP), please provide evidence of your current competition level (state, national, or international). This may include a letter from your coach or sporting body, a selection letter, or a competition schedule.

For more information, visit the Elite Athlete Program webpage.
