Our Education
The UNE SMART Farms provide an ideal place for educating students and the community about agricultural systems and cutting-edge research across many disciplines.
UNE SMART Farms engage with secondary and tertiary students, farmers, industry and the community to provide education at a range of levels. The farms provide a living landscape laboratory in a commercial farm setting with access to a variety of soil, vegetation and land use types.
Secondary Students
The UNE SMART Farms provide opportunities for secondary students to engage with precision agriculture and agtech and its applications in farming systems, as well as exposure to tertiary studies at UNE.
With large areas of undisturbed vegetation, the Farms are also ideal for hands-on experience in natural resource and environmental studies, and the interaction of these with agricultural systems.
Please contact us to find out what we can offer in terms of secondary student experiences.
Tertiary and Higher Degree Studies at UNE
The SMART Farms are within walking distance or a short drive of the main UNE campus. This proximity allows the Farms to be used extensively for undergraduate teaching across a range of disciplines. Students studying a range of degrees will access the farms for their practical learning experiences in animal production, agronomy, precision agriculture, zoology, natural resource management and ecosystem function.
