One Health is a rapidly emerging discipline in public health, representing a multidisciplinary approach that recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health. Examining these connections can help us to identify the root causes of complex infectious diseases and develop strategies to prevent them. In today’s world, one health is an increasingly important focus in both medical and veterinary science.

Most of our students choose to study online across three study periods with 24/7 tutor support* and fit study around work and family commitments. Online study in your own country
If you would like to study online with UNE while you reside outside of Australia you do not need a Student Visa. If your course requires you to visit Australia to attend any mandatory study requirements, you would need to explore Visitor Visa options for a short-term stay.
Online study in Australia
If you would like to study online with UNE while you are residing in Australia, you will need to hold a visa (other than a Student Visa) that allows you to study. If you are unsure if your visa allows you to study, you can check with UNE's International Admissions team. If you hold a Student Visa you cannot study completely online; you must be enrolled as an on-campus student (although you can study a limited number of online units).
Some courses require you to provide documentary evidence, or interviews to support your application. The following documents are required to support your application:
- A certified academic transcript of your completed qualification/s.
- Proof of identify and citizenship. This can be a certified/notarised copy of the photo page of your passport, or another form of official photo identification that lists your full personal details including date and date of birth; for example, a foreign government identify card.
- Evidence of English Language Requirements satisfied. If you have completed a UNE-approved formal English text within the last two years, you must provide a copy of the test results with your application. Please see UNE's English Language Requirements above for further information.
Advanced Standing is credit or recognition of your previous study, work and/or life experience. This can reduce the cost and length of your studies.

- If you are admitted under Rule A, you will be granted 24 credit points of Block Advanced Standing.

Understanding Your Course Fees
Your total course fees are based on the number of units you complete, not the length of time you study. This gives you flexibility to tailor your study journey to suit your circumstances.
Here's how it works:

- Advanced standing - If you're eligible for credit for previous study, you'll complete fewer units and pay less overall
- Study pace - Choose part-time or full-time study to fit your schedule without affecting unit costs
- Trimester 3 option - Students who choose to accelerate their progress by studying during Trimester 3 can do so without increasing overall costs

# This course is one of a select number of courses offered online at a reduced annual fee for international students studying from outside Australia. The reduced fee applies to full-time study (two-trimesters) or part-time equivalent.
Please note that only international students studying online from outside Australia are eligible for this reduced fee. International students residing in Australia on a visa other than a student visa are eligible to enrol in the online mode at UNE at the standard international online tuition fee.
If you move to Australia, your study will be charged at the standard international online tuition fee. All fees are reviewed annually and may be subject to adjustment.

If you are successful in gaining admission to study at UNE, the Offer of Admission will list the exact tuition fees you need to pay for your course. What are the course fee payment options?
Full Fee places are mostly in postgraduate coursework degrees. In a full fee place you pay the tuition fee set for your course, however you may be eligible for a FEE-HELP Loan to defer payment of your fees until you are earning above the threshold.
If you are enrolled in a Full Fee place and there is a direct connection between your work and your study, you may be able to claim your tuition fees as a tax deduction.
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is a government subsidised place in a university course. The government pays part of your tuition fees, and you pay the remainder.
If you have a CSP in either an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree, you may be eligible for a HECS-HELP Loan, which allows you to defer payment of your fees until you are earning above the threshold.
UNE scholarships are open for all to apply and offer financial help while you are studying. There are scholarships for students with high academic achievement, from rural areas, studying specific degrees, in disadvantaged groups, experiencing financial hardship, who excel at sport or want to live in a UNE residential college.
UNE offers bursaries and scholarships that can help you with the costs of studying and living in Australia.

Master of Public Health (One Health) students are typically individuals who plan to build a career within the realm of population health, health promotion, epidemiology, and leadership roles in public and private practices including departments of health, local health districts, and non-government organisations, nationally and internationally. The Master of Public Health (One Health) equips graduates with the qualifications needed to further their careers in the fields of environmental health, ecological epidemiology, veterinary medicine, socio-ecological systems, policy development and global health.
Course outcomes
- demonstrate advanced and transdisciplinary knowledge of the One Health paradigm and approach in achieving better health outcomes that recognise interconnections between humans, animals, plants, and environmental health;
- demonstrate an advanced understanding of the disease transmission risks among humans, animals and environments;
- critically analyse how to conduct research and interpret public health data for better health outcomes;
- apply critical thinking and judgement using biostatistics in a range of public health delivery scenarios;
- critically apply and analyse epidemiological methods to address public health issues in a variety of contexts;
- critically evaluate system, cultural and structural factors that impact leadership in public health and interprofessional practice; and
- demonstrate specialised knowledge in a core area of Public Health (One Health).
- Knowledge of a Discipline
The knowledge of the discipline of Public Health (One Health) is taught, practised and assessed throughout the course. The Master of Public Health (One Health) will graduate students ready to undertake impactful work in strengthening the health and wellbeing of communities within Australia and internationally. Graduates may utilise their augmented understanding of health in their existing professions or move into more distinct roles in Public Health. The Master of Public Health (One Health) provides the learning materials and teaching support skills necessary to equip Public Health (One Health) graduates for leadership positions in a diverse range of Public Health settings. The Master of Public Health (One Health) program will take the knowledge and qualifications of the professionals of the discipline of Public Health (One Health) to the next level, equipping health and agriculture, veterinary and environmental science professionals (amongst others) with the knowledge and skills to improve health outcomes of these communities at a population level. Importantly, UNE’s focus on One Health within its Master of Public Health degree will allow students to choose one of three specialisations: environmental, organisational and global.
- Communication Skills
Communication skills are taught, practised and assessed in this course. Graduates will demonstrate the application of the skills required for effective communication in Public Health contexts. Graduates will learn to reflect upon their own values, identities and communication skills and styles and how they affect professional communications with a range of audiences and stakeholders in Public Health. Applying the principles of interprofessional communication, graduates will be able to enhance their interprofessional practice and collaborations in order to enhance better health outcomes.
- Problem Solving
Problems that confront Public Health (One Health) professionals are extensive and their impact may be serious for humans, animals, plants, and environmental health. Strategies for solving problems in Public Health (One Health) involve engaging others and eliciting their contributions and developing frameworks for prioritising different problem scenarios and evaluating better health outcomes. Problem solving is taught, practised and assessed in all units. There is an emphasis on analytical skills and critical learning to develop methods and techniques to understand and find pathways to health promotion.
- Information Literacy
In an era of rapid technological development, information literacy is a critical driver of health organisational performance and growth. Studying the Master of Public Health (One Health), graduates will develop a solid foundation for using health information, knowledge and literacy strategically from a variety of sources. Graduates will be taught, practise and assessed in relation to information literacy skills. Graduates will need to identify, evaluate and synthesise relevant information effectively in assessments throughout the course.
- Ethical Conduct and Social Responsibility
This attribute is taught, practised and assessed throughout the course. Public health professionals have an important function in the community to optimise Public Health services. Studying this course, graduates will be able to apply critical reflection, analysis and interpretation of ethical principles to Public Health contexts.
- Lifelong Learning
Lifelong learning is taught, practised and assessed throughout the course. Graduates in the Master of Public Health (One Health) will be prepared for lifelong learning through the application of logical, critical and creative thinking skills to solve a range of problems that confront Public Health professionals. Graduates will contribute to improved health outcomes and community resilience on a population scale through the lifelong learning process.
- Independence and Collaboration
Independence and Collaboration is taught, practised and assessed through a variety of approaches including on-line group projects. Graduates will develop independent, co-operative and collaborative skills through learning and assessment activities and ongoing research, enquiry and reflection, throughout the course. Graduates will independently engage with new ideas and develop logical, critical and creative thinking skills that they can apply in a variety of situations throughout the course.

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian University.
As an international student you can take advantage of flexible online study from overseas or while you are studying in Australia on a visa other than a student visa. You can’t study fully online on a Student Visa.
To study online from overseas you need to consider that you may need to travel to Australia to attend a UNE campus for some mandatory intensive schools.
