Terms of Enrolment
- Your Relationship with UNE
- When you accept an offer to study at the University of New England (UNE) and enrol you agree to familiarise yourself with and abide by the UNE Act 1993 (NSW), By-laws, Rules, policies, procedures, and the UNE Course Handbook, which may be updated from time to time.
- These Terms of Enrolment set out the conditions that apply to your enrolment at UNE. These Terms of Enrolment may be updated from time to time.
- You are responsible for staying informed about any changes to these Terms of Enrolment, and the UNE Act 1993 (NSW), By-laws, Rules, policies, procedures, and the UNE Course Handbook.
- Academic Requirements
For All Students:
- As a UNE student, you must:
- Follow these enrolment terms
- Enrol in the correct units for your course
- Meet all prerequisite requirements
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Complete your course within the specified timeframe
- If you don't meet the requirements for mandatory placements, field work, or practical components, UNE may:
- Remove you from the unit
- Withdraw you from your course
- Terminate your enrolment with written notice
Additional Academic Requirements for Postgraduate Research Students: - If you're a research student, you must also:
- Follow UNE's Code of Conduct for Research Rule
- Meet the milestones in your research proposal
- Maintain regular contact with your supervisors
- Submit progress reports as required
- As a UNE student, you must:
- Technology Requirements and Online Assessment
- You must have access to:
- A reliable computer with internet connectivity
- Basic software as specified in your course requirements
- Any specialized equipment needed for your specific program
- By enrolling, you acknowledge and accept that:
- Assessments are conducted online as required
- Online examinations may include online supervision
- You must comply with UNE's online examination protocols
- Technical checks must be completed before online assessments
- UNE primarily delivers coursework through its learning management system and requires regular access to digital resources.
- Research students may have additional technology requirements specific to their field of study.
- You must have access to:

- Check your UNE email regularly, at least once a week
- Keep your contact details current
- Use UNE IT systems appropriately
- You must be aware of the principles and expectations for the behaviour of UNE students by reading and complying with the Student Behavioural Misconduct Rule. Misconduct may result in disciplinary proceedings.
- You must be aware of the principles of academic integrity and for managing student breaches of academic integrity at UNE by reading and complying with the Student Academic Integrity Policy. Breaches of academic integrity may result in disciplinary proceedings.

- Financial Responsibilities
- You need to ensure that your enrolment is correct at the relevant census date. Withdrawing before the census date means no financial or academic penalties. After the census date, penalties will apply unless special circumstances are approved.
- If you are a Commonwealth supported student and/or have a HELP loan, you have a final opportunity to correct any errors with your enrolment once you receive your Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN). These notices are emailed to you in the 28 days following each census date relevant to your enrolment (as required by the Higher Education Support Act 2003). The final date for correcting any errors you detect is displayed on the notice.
- If you are an eligible domestic full fee-paying student, and have chosen to take a FEE-HELP loan, you need to know your FEE-HELP balance at all times and inform the University if you don’t have enough balance to cover your full enrolment. The Australian Government's Study Assist website explains what the FEE-HELP balance is and how to calculate it.
- If you receive a scholarship or bursary, you must comply with all its conditions.
- By enrolling, you authorize UNE to:
- Take steps to recover unpaid fees
- Use external debt collection services if needed
- Hold your academic documents until you've paid outstanding debts
- Not paying your fees on time may result in:
- Late payment fees
- Cancellation of your enrolment
- Restricted access to UNE services
- UNE's Rights
- UNE reserves the right to:
- Change unit requirements or content when necessary
- Cancel units with low enrolment
- Cancel your admission and enrolment if you provide false information
- Change research supervision arrangements if needed (for research students)
- UNE doesn't guarantee that all courses or units will be offered every trimester, and may need to change staffing, content, or locations.
- UNE reserves the right to:

- All information in your application and enrolment must be true and complete.
- If you provide false information, UNE may:
- Cancel your admission and enrolment
- Terminate your study at UNE
- Share this information with other institutions and Government agencies
- You must promptly update UNE if your personal information changes.
- Privacy and Your Data
- By enrolling, you acknowledge that UNE may:
- Collect and use your personal information in line with privacy laws
- Use software to check your work for originality
- Share your academic records with government agencies as required
- Verify your academic history with other institutions
- You must read the UNE Student Privacy Notice which provides detailed information about how UNE collects, uses, and manages your personal information throughout your student journey.
