Enrolment Glossary

Helping You Understand UNE Enrolment Terminology

Census Date - Sometimes called Census, refers to the last date to withdraw from a unit without paying the fee for it. This can be helpful if you need to lighten your study load. As long as you withdraw from your unit/s before 11:59pm on the Census Date, you will not be charged for the unit/s. Census Dates can be found on the Principal Dates.

Course/Degree - The overall award you get when you successfully complete all of your units (see below).

Enrol (at a course level) - Being accepted to enrol into a course/degree offered by UNE.

Enrol (at a unit level) - Putting yourself into individual units of study, the culmination of which will give you your degree.

Postgraduate - Postgraduate study involves either coursework or research and is usually undertaken after you’ve completed a bachelor’s degree.

Subject -  A subject commonly refers to the topic or discipline that the information in a unit relates to (i.e. BIOL110 and BIOL120 are both first year biology units).

Undergraduate -  An undergraduate degree, or bachelor's degree, is usually the first degree you obtain at university.

Units - A unit is an academic module which forms part of your course of study, which represents a credit point value that contributes towards your course.
