SA Chapter of UNE Alumni Association

The South Australian Chapter for the UNE Alumni Association (SACUNE) began in 1996 when a group of enthusiastic alumni residing in SA came together to form the association. SACUNE has continued to thrive, with some of the original members still active.

Just as our membership is varied, so too are our functions! We always aim to be family friendly, and we pride ourselves in being inclusive - alumni, current students and their family and friends are all welcome. We generally offer 4 to 5 functions each year.

The purpose of our SA Chapter is threefold:

  • UNE CONNECTION – to maintain a connection with the University, keeping abreast of what is happening as it continues to meet the needs of current and future students;
  • COLLEGIALITY - To allow UNE Alumni and Students to socialise, building and strengthening connections with each other;
  • SCHOLARSHIP -To promote and raise funds for an annual scholarship, assisting a South Australian student with their studies (remotely or on campus). Note - Details on how to donate can be found below.

Our committee is active and vibrant, reflecting a broad spectrum of interests and expertise.

If you have further enquiries about our SA Chapter or would like to receive our emails, please contact alumni@une.edu.au

We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to one of our functions.

2026 SACUNE Scholarship Recipient: Angus Langsmith

Angus Langsmith, a final‑year Bachelor of Rural Science (Honours) student specialising in meat science, is the SACUNE 2026 scholarship recipient.

Angus grew up on a small beef and sheep property near Glencoe in South Australia’s south-east and attended Grant High School in Mount Gambier. Following a gap year working in irrigation across beef, sheep, dairy and horticultural industries, he moved to Armidale in 2023 to commence his studies at UNE, residing at Robb College for the first three years.

Now completing his honours, Angus also works as a laboratory technician. His research is investigating the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and its relationship to meat tenderness in beef, sheep and goat meat, with practical applications for meat quality and processing

Angus has been actively involved in the Intercollegiate Meat Judging (ICMJ) program and has assisted with coaching the UNE team. This has included a recent competition and travel to Rockhampton, providing valuable exposure to the northern beef industry.

At the end of 2025, Angus gained further hands‑on industry experience while working on a 6000-head beef breeding operation on Flinders Island, developing skills in grazing and pasture management.

Angus is now aspiring to build a career within the livestock industry, with strong interests in high‑production grazing systems, livestock management and meat processing.

Receiving the SACUNE Scholarship assists Angus with the costs associated with university study and industry engagement while studying at UNE
