The New Colombo Plan

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is an initiative of the Australian Government aimed at lifting knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduate students to study and undertake internships in the region.

The initiative encourages a two-way flow of students between Australia and the rest of our region, complementing the thousands of students from the region coming to Australia to study each year.

The NCP’s intention is to strengthen Australia's relationships in the region at the individual level and expand university, business and other links.

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Program

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Program provides funding to Australian universities to support Australian undergraduate students’ participation in study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research in 40 host locations across the Indo-Pacific region.

The Mobility Program is open to Australian university undergraduates aged 18 to 28. Participation by undergraduates over 28 is permitted in some circumstances (see the Mobility Program Guidelines ).
