Postgraduate FAQs

All UNE coursework units require a workload of 10–12 hours per 6 credit points.

A full-time study load (4 units per trimester) equates to approximately 40–48 hours per week.

Many students elect to reduce external commitments during intensive or placement periods.

Some components—such as Intensive Schools and certain clinical skills activities—are mandatory and must be attended at scheduled times.

Other learning activities (lectures, readings, online modules) offer a high degree of flexibility.

Intensive Schools are typically held twice a year—around Easter and August.

Check your Intensive School dates early to ensure you can attend.

1. Approval process

• Part-time enrolment must be approved by the Course Director.
• Submit an enquiry via AskUNE, so the request can be reviewed and attached to your student record.

2. What can I enrol in as a part-time student?

• Part-time students may enrol in a minimum of one unit per trimester.
• If you were accepted as a full-time student, please ensure you are still following an approved unit sequence in your Course Plan (see the Course Handbook).

Please look up your course within the Course Handbook, and refer to the 'Course Plans' section.

All coursework is delivered online.

For Clinical students, PSYC534 and PSYC535 placement units must be conducted in-person.

Yes. Once your enrolment is processed, you will receive access to the myLearn Community site. You will be notified via your UNE email address.

1 week prior to the start of the trimester, you will be given access to myLearn unit sites.

New MPSYAE and second-year MPSYCH students: There may be a short delay in gaining access. Please begin organising your placement using the Getting Started page (link in your Welcome Email) rather than waiting for myLearn access.

How do I access MyLearn? Log on to your Units via myUNE.

MPPSY

• completed in 1 year of full-time (FT) study or up to 4 years of part-time (PT) study

MPSYCH

• Rule A and C: completed in 2 years of full-time (FT) study or up to 6 years of part-time (PT) study
• Rule B: completed in 1 year of full-time (FT) study or up to 4 years of part-time (PT) study

MPSYAE

• completed in 1 year of full-time (FT) study or up to 4 years of part-time (PT) study

PhD(ClinPsych)

• completed in 4 years of full-time (FT) study or up to 8 years of part-time (PT) study

*Note: Intermission does not extend your maximum candidature.

Yes. After you complete at least one unit, you can apply for intermission for up to two years.

You need to apply and be approved before you take a break from study.

If you do not apply, your enrolment may be considered withdrawn.

Intermission does not extend the maximum time you have to finish your course. See candidature rules in "How long do I have to complete my degree?"

Master of Professional Psychology (MPP)

No. Commonwealth Supported Places are not available for the Master of Professional Psychology.

Master of Psychology (Clinical)  &   Master of Psychology (Clinical) Advanced Entry

CSP availability is strictly limited and cannot be guaranteed.

• Applicants who selected “Full-time CSP” as their first preference are considered for the initial CSP offers.
• Applicants who did not nominate this preference may be considered only if additional CSP quota becomes available after the first round of offers.

No. Offers for this program cannot be deferred.
To retain your place, you must enrol in at least one unit in the upcoming trimester.

After you complete 1 unit, you may apply for intermission. For details, see 'Can I take a break from study once I’ve started?'

Your Welcome Email will be sent within one week of receiving your offer.

Your simulated, online placement will take place in your last trimester. Please visit the Course Handbook and look up PSYC533 for more information.

MPSYCH placement requirements

The MPSYCH includes three placement units:

• PSYC533 – completed online
• PSYC534 – completed in person
• PSYC535 – completed in person

When will I complete my placements?

Rule A students commencing the full two-year program

• First year, Trimester 2: PSYC533, commencing in July
• Second year, Trimester 1: PSYC534, commencing in February after completing PSYC533
• Second year, Trimester 2: PSYC535, commencing in July after completing PSYC534

Rule B sudents commencing directly in second year with advanced standing

Advanced standing is granted for PSYC533. Students commence:

• Trimester 1: PSYC534, commencing in February
• Trimester 2: PSYC535, commencing in July after completing PSYC534

Your MPSYAE degree includes two placement units:

• PSYC534

Full-time students

• Placement 1 (PSYC534): Trimester 1, commencing in February

Part-time students generally commence placements in their second year* of study:

• PSYC534: Trimester 1 of the second year
• PSYC535: Trimester 2 of the second year, following completion of PSYC534
