Teaching for Diversity - Contextual Studies in Education
The impacts of globalisation, leadership, and policy reforms on education are strategically significant at national-state, provincial, and local levels. Yet to many, it may not be surprising that a systematic approach is lacking on such complex and contested terrains.
Our Contextual Studies in Education units prepare individuals to understand and teach interdisciplinary studies that examine peoples, events, movements, institutions, societies, cultures and other issues relevant within the current educational context. This includes the philosophy and history of education, the sociology of education, and Aboriginal Education.
Inclusive Education
If you intend to become a teacher, or you are a qualified teacher motivated to advance your knowledge and skills, our units of study in Inclusive Education (Including High Ability and Special Education) will offer you evidence-based strategies for the effective teaching and learning of students with a diverse range of educational needs. Additionally, your acquired skills will include strategies to assist with classroom management and the handling of challenging behaviours, as well as an understanding of working collaboratively with stakeholders to support the learning of students with additional educational needs. Completing units on Inclusive Education within your teaching degree will allow you to develop advanced investigation and problem-solving techniques to address issues related to individuals with additional educational needs.
Learning and Teaching
The Learning and Teaching units are designed to build expertise in pedagogy and assessment. Learning to become a well-informed, scholarly teacher is a career-long enterprise. Join us as you start your journey to develop a solid foundation in the fundamental principles of effective teaching and learning.
Build your expertise in pedagogy
We provide units at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for students studying on campus and online. As friendly, approachable staff of experienced teachers, we strive to model the research-informed approaches we would like to see in schools both in our face-to-face and online teaching. Our units of study explicitly prepare you with knowledge and skills to teach the NSW and Australian Curriculum.
Our research
Our researchers help advance the profession of education through a better understanding of modern teaching and learning. Our cross-cultural collaborations ensure our schools, teachers and student teachers benefit from the best international practices and expertise.
