Scholarship FAQs

Scholarships

Congratulations, you’ve got a scholarship… Now what?

When will I be paid?

Payments are processed following the Trimester census dates. The Student Scholarships team will let you know when to expect payment closer to the date via email.

How will I be paid?

Depending on your scholarship, payments are made either:

  • Direct to your bank account
  • Into your Residential Fee Account
  • Into your Student Fee Account

These methods are listed in your specific scholarship’s Terms and Conditions document which you would have read and signed as part of your acceptance. If you’re not sure, let us know!

Is there anything that might stop me from being paid?

The Student Scholarships team needs to check that you have met all the requirements to receive your scholarship. Read and understand your Terms and Conditions to know:

  • Do you need to be enrolled full time or part time?
  • Do you have to be an On campus student? Or can you study Online?
  • Do you need to live in a UNE Residential College? (some scholarships exclude St Albert’s)
  • Do you need to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 / 5.0 / 6.0 each trimester?
  • Are you thinking of changing courses?
  • Have you forgotten to submit your progress report? (Not necessary for a newly awarded scholarship – we will remind you when you need to submit your first report)
A Report? What does that mean?

As a scholarship recipient, we require you to complete an online report in May or September of each year. This report is a way for you to let your scholarship donor know how their money has helped you so far. It includes a few short questions, and the Student Scholarships team will contact you with the details closer to the date.

We’ll send you reminders too, so keep an eye on your emails!

The Donor…. who is that?

UNE Scholarships are mostly funded by donors who generously give money to support students while they study at our wonderful university. Generally, each scholarship will have a separate donor or representative. You’ll have an opportunity to meet them in person at the annual scholarship donor event.

A Scholarship Event – What if I can’t make it?

If you have a conflicting commitment and can’t attend the event as specified, you have the option to write a letter of thanks to the donor of your scholarship which will be passed on to them for you.

You mentioned my enrolment. What has that got to do with my scholarship?

If your Terms and Conditions stipulate that you must study On campus you will not be able to enrol in Online units, except in extenuating circumstances, for example, if the unit is only offered Online.

In any case, you will need to contact us to let us know. If you don’t, we may contact you asking you to explain why you have not adhered to your Terms and Conditions.

Also keep in mind that if you need to be a full-time student, you’ll need to be enrolled in the necessary number of units – refer to your scholarship’s Terms and Conditions.

Does Centrelink need to know about my scholarship?

Yes – it’s best to check with Centrelink to make sure that your Centrelink payments will not be affected.

What if I’m not doing so well – either in class or personally?

If you think you may be struggling with your academic commitments, or there are things going on with you personally, please get into contact with us – we may be able to negotiate an alternative enrolment for you while you get back on your feet. We may even be able to link you with some extra support while you study!
