Candidate Expectations for Q&A

Following the oral presentation, candidates should be responsive and articulate when responding to questions from the Milestone Panel/audience and demonstrate an ability to engage in a considered discussion about your research project that:

  • Explains the topic, rationale, and position in the field;
  • Outlines key concepts and theoretical issues;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant research methods and literature, and
  • Provides an overview of planned chapters and thesis structure.

Following the audience departure, often the Milestone Panel members will offer additional feedback and provide further suggestions to the candidate.

Confidential Milestone Discussion

HDR Candidates are given an opportunity at the end of the milestone meeting to discuss progress, wellbeing and any concerns, questions or feedback. This section of the meeting is completely confidential with only the Chair, HDR Candidate and HDR Support Officer present.
