Chair Information

The Milestone Chair plays a central role in HDR Milestone Panels by coordinating the milestone meeting, introducing the HRD Candidate/Panel members, and guiding the candidate’s oral presentation and subsequent discussions.

The Chair manages separate confidential discussions with the candidate and supervisory team, to ensure fair and transparent conversation. They must lead the Panel in determining a milestone outcome and communicating the final decision to the candidate, overseeing any conditions or requirements.

Milestone Structure

The Chair will guide the candidate and panel members in completing the following steps throughout the milestone meeting:

Note: HDR Support Officer (GRS) will be present for all sections of milestone meetings to facilitate / administratively support.

Milestone Outcomes

In conjunction with the Milestone Panel and after sufficient discussion, the Chair arrives at a final milestone outcome after collating feedback. The Chair then verbally communicates this to the HDR Candidate during the milestone meeting.

Once the Chair has completed the Milestone Report form (primarily completed during the milestone meeting to ensure accuracy of information), the Chair must send the form to the Gradate Research School (grs-milestones@une.edu.au) for processing and to officially notify the HDR Candidate and Supervisory team.

Documentation (Completed by the Chair)

Approximately 1 week prior to the milestone, the Chair will receive the following documentation from the HDR Support Officer:

  • Milestone Report Form
  • Confidential Milestone Discussion
  • Discipline Representative Report
  • HDR Candidate’s submitted written documentation
  • iThenticate Report/s (Similarity and/or AI)

Within ten (10) business days post milestone, the Chair is required to send the following completed and signed documentation to the HDR Support Officer via grs-milestones@une.edu.au:

  • Milestone Report Form
  • Confidential Milestone Discussion
