Teaching Focused Roles

Applications are only open to current UNE academic casual employees or UNE academic casual employees who have been employed by and worked for UNE in the preceding 12 months.

The University of New England will offer casual academic staff the opportunity to apply for teaching focused roles through an Expression of Interest (EOI)-based recruitment process as per Clause 14.29 of the current UNE Academic and English Language Teaching Staff Enterprise Agreement, 2020-2022 (EA).

Roles have been identified across various discipline areas in the three Faculties at both UNE’s Armidale and Sydney campuses.

The roles will be filled through a merit-based recruitment process and are subject to eligibility criteria. Applications are open to all current UNE academic casual employees OR UNE academic casual employees who have been employed by and worked for UNE in the preceding 12 months. Vacancies opened for applications via UNEJobs from COB Monday 12 April.

Recruitment will continue throughout April with shortlisting scheduled to occur early in May. The recruitment process is expected to conclude in June 2022.

Who is eligible to apply?

How do I apply for a position?

Applicants will be asked to provide a current resume, a cover letter, and responses in the format of their choice addressing the selection criteria as part of their application and submitted via UNEJobs.

How will the appointment process work?  

Appointments will be merit based, subject to meeting the essential selection criteria for the positions, and in alignment with UNE’s Recruitment Rule and Procedures.

When will I be notified of the outcome of my application?  

All applicants for a position will be advised of the outcome of their application following shortlisting.

What are the opportunities for promotion if I am in a Teaching Focused role?   

All academic roles, including Teaching focused are eligible for promotion and special studies program within specified eligibility requirements.

What is a Teaching Focused role?

Teaching Focused is one of 3 Academic workload roles that informs the basis of an individual workload allocation. As per clause 14.20 of the UNE Academic and EL Teaching Staff Collective Agreement 2020 –2022 a Teaching Focused Academic will usually have a 70% teaching allocation, no requirement for research allocation, and a 30% service and administration allocation.

What happens if all the roles are not filled following the EOI?

The University is committed to providing opportunities for casual employees. The University will review the outcome of this round of recruitment once it is completed and determine whether any further actions are required to meet its EA obligations and to align the academic workforce with Future Fit goals.

Will more Teaching Focused roles be offered?

The University will continue to offer teaching focused roles alongside balanced and research focused roles as part of its overall planning for an academic workforce and academic community that is aligned with its Future Fit goals.
