Advice and Support
If you need independent advice or support throughout this process, you may reach out to the UNE Life Advocacy & Welfare team.
Other University services can be found on the UNE Student Support and Services webpage.
We prioritise matters involving
- Personal safety
- Sensitive issues that may pose significant risk
- Impact on your ability to continue studying or visa implications
- Widespread problems with University systems or processes
- Serious breaches of University rules or policies
When we may not be able to assist
If you're unsure whether we can help with your concern, please contact us, we'll help you find the right path.
For example, if you have an active academic appeal, special assessment application, or AskUNE enquiry, we'll wait until that's completed before starting our process. Some concerns are best addressed through other University processes first (we can help you find the right one) Decisions about grades or academic assessment methods are handled through academic appeals We handle matters connected to UNE; we can't investigate issues unrelated to the University
Obtaining evidence and supporting documentation
We understand that gathering information can be difficult, especially if your concern involves distressing events.
Supporting information helps us investigate thoroughly and might include:
- Emails, text messages, or screenshots
- Names of people who witnessed what happened
- Dates, times, and locations
- Documents or photos
- Your own written account of events
If you're unsure what to provide or don't have "proof," please don't let that stop you from reaching out. Contact us and we'll talk through what information might be helpful.
Please note: We may need to pause an investigation if we don't have enough information to proceed, but we'll work with you to understand what's needed.
