Information on Resumes and Templates

Fun fact – did you know the first resume can be traced back to the 15th Century? For future trivia nights, in 1482, Leonardo Da Vinci wrote a resume-like letter that included his relevant skills and experiences and his proficiencies in using practical tools.

Jump ahead to 2025; a resume is essential when applying for a job. There are many different resume formats out there, and some resume formats are specific to certain industries. We can help you craft a compelling resume, no matter the industry. Here are some hot tips to get started and some templates you might like to use for your resume.

Key Elements

  • Contact Information: This goes at the top of the page, so it’s easy to spot. You include your name, phone number, and email. You may wish to add your LinkedIn profile
  • Professional Summary: A clear and concise brief paragraph that showcases your key skills and career goals.
  • Education: List your completed or current qualifications, including where you studied and when.
  • Professional Experience: Include your work history, internships, part-time jobs and volunteering. For each job, write a strong descriptive paragraph using action verbs, focusing on the portability of your skills, explaining your role and what you achieved.
  • Skills: Highlight your skills using headings relevant to the role you're applying for, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and technical abilities. Under the headings of each skill, share what you did, how you did it and the impact you made. Let your achievements and accomplishments shine.
