Information for UNE Staff

How can UNE Employability & Careers assist you and your students?

Employability

Our experienced Career Coaches can work with you to embed career activities in your programs. This can be as simple as an information session, a resume workshop or we can develop your studetns skills further through a range of activities using the UNE Career Toolkit.

We can personalise programs within the Toolkit to suit your student cohort needs. You can view an example of a customised program here: Collaboration Skills - Part One.

Some of our most popular workshops - both in-person and online are:

  • resume development
  • building a Career Action Plan
  • how to look for work and employment in relation to your degree
  • use of social media

We are able to develop other workshops and presentations with your course in mind and also include presentations by Alumni and Employers. Please phone 02 6773 5104 to schedule a time to discuss your needs.

Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is an “umbrella term for a range of approaches and strategies that integrate theory with the practice of work within a purposefully designed curriculum”.1

Specifically, WIL is aimed at improving the employability of graduates by giving them valuable practical experience which is directly related to courses being studied at university. WIL also improves the transition from university to work and productivity outcomes for the employer and the economy.2

UNE Employability and Careers offer the following WIL units in Trismester 2 and 3 each year:

WORK100 - designed for students in their first year of study, working through activiteis that will assist them to make good career choices and to ensure they are in the right course of study - this may include 40 hours of work placement.

WORK300 - best for final year undergarduate students who wish to use their current place of work or if they wish to try a new role in relation to their study program. It is based on job search techniques and will include two assessments - a Functional Resume and a Refelctive Journal. This experience is ideal for students who do not have practical placements within their program.

WORK500 - a post graduate version of WORK300 and very popular with Arts students.

Employer presentations

We have a number of employers who contact us throughout the year and we will organise events for them to make contact with students. Most of the events have been online for the past 10 years, but the studetns that attend are highly successful in gaining a chance at interview for their graduate programs, as they get to talk one-on-one to the employer. This is line with ensuring positive Job Ready outcomes and meeting the UNE Strategic Plan.

If you have an employer that would like to hold a session, please let UNE Employabiltiy & Careers know wither via careers@une.edu.au or 02 6773 5104 We would be very happy to organise an event for you and your students.
