Data Breach

The University of New England collects and manages a range of personal and health information about staff, students, patients and those contributing to the teaching of University programs of study.

What is a Data Breach?

A data breach happens when personal information held by the university is lost or subjected to unauthorised access, modification, disclosure, misuse or interference. Data breaches can be accidental or intentional in nature.

The Privacy Act 1988 requires the University to notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner when a data breach involving personal information is likely to result in serious harm.

Reporting a Data Breach

All University staff and students should report any suspected or known breaches of personal information held by the University to:
