Films and other online content

The Educational Statutory Licence does not cover the reproduction or communication of films or videos. If you wish to use films or other online video content as learning resources, the following options may be relevant.

Link to the online content

Online video content, for example, from YouTube can usually be included in teaching resources, Reading List or myLearn as links or using the embed code. You should not link to content on a site that you believe is an infringing copy, or likely to be infringing.

Online videos with a Creative Commons licence can be used under the terms of the licence, which may include downloading, hosting and/or editing.

As with all copyright material, video content requires attribution.

Content available from the library's electronic subscriptions

UNE has access to databases that contain films for educational use. These resources are covered by licences with the vendors and publishers of the database and you must link to the library electronic subscription resources from either Reading List or myLearn. Refer to more information about linking to the library's electronic subscriptions.

Section 200AB of the Copyright Act

Section 200AB is a provision in the Copyright Act which may allow educational institutions to make use of copyright material for certain specific purposes. The library may be able to format shift an educational resource from a VHS to a DVD and make a copy available in Reading List, provided several conditions are met. Find out more about section 200AB, or contact the copyright coordinator.
