Michael is the Group Head of Tax for Westpac Group, where he leads the organisation’s global tax strategy and governance. His remit spans tax policy, risk management, and strategic oversight of key areas such as Capital Management, Group Treasury, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Human Resources.
With more than two decades at Westpac since joining in 1998, Michael has developed deep expertise in navigating complex domestic and international tax environments within the financial services sector. Before Westpac, he built a strong technical foundation at leading accounting firms including Coopers & Lybrand, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and Price Waterhouse.
Widely regarded as a respected voice in tax policy, Michael regularly engages with Federal Treasury through consultative forums and advocates for industry interests via the Australian Bankers’ Association. He also serves as Chair of the International Banking Federation’s Tax Working Group, contributing a valuable global perspective to emerging policy and regulatory issues.
