S&T Technical Resources

The School of Science and Technology provides technical resources to support teaching and research in the School and services to the Faculty and broader UNE community.

The deployment of School resources is controlled by the Head of School and the School Technical Manager with input from the School Technical Team, Discipline Conveners and other academic staff.

Staff

School technical staff provide support for teaching, research and facility operations within a flexible discipline based model. Staff are located with the Disciplines of Biomedical Science, Chemistry and Physics, and Exercise and Sport Science. While staff priorities are discipline specific by default, members of the S&T Technical Team work together to provide technical services across the School and broadly to the UNE community.

Facilities

A range of teaching and research facilities are available to Science and Technology staff. Teaching spaces are booked centrally and are generally available to all University staff for teaching activities. School technical staff advise on the use of teaching laboratories, matching teaching activities to the most suitable spaces.

Research space is allocated within Disciplines with oversight by the Head of School. Some research facilities within the Disciplines of Biomedical Science and Chemistry and Physics, particularly shared spaces and equipment, are managed by the S&T Technical Team. Other facilities are allocated to individual school research staff and groups and managed by them.

Equipment

Teaching and research equipment is provided by the university and faculty and controlled by School academic and technical staff with the oversight of the Head of School and School Technical Manager. Teaching equipment is generally available to any School staff member for teaching activities. Research equipment controlled by the S&T Technical Team is available for use by approved users according to our User Group management model.

Access

School resources managed by the S&T Technical Team may be accessed in two modes.

1. Routine deployment and use includes staffing assignments and facilty and equipment use within the normal, day-to-day, operations of the School. Such allocation and use is managed by the members of the S&T Technical Team with ongoing approval.
2. All other resource allocations and deployment must be approved by the School Technical Manager or Head of School.
