Feeder Steer School

The University of New England and Local Land Services are pleased to announce the return of the Feeder Steer School, held in Armidale from 8–11 February 2027.
This event serves as a premier platform for engagement, education, and extension within the Australian beef industry. The program strategically targets producers from across the eastern states - key regions for supplying cattle to the feedlot sector.
Event Features
The 2027 Feeder Steer School is an immersive, three-day conference that combines practical, hands-on workshops with expert presentations. Anticipating over 200 attendees, comprising cattle producers, lot feeders, and wider industry stakeholders, this event is poised to become a flagship biennial event for the Australian red meat sector.
The agenda brings together leading researchers, buyers, agronomists, meat scientists, livestock operations managers, and advisers from across the red meat supply chain to share insights into the latest research and industry best practices.
Topics covered:
- Genetic progress: Increasing genetic progress using technology.
- Nutrition and budgeting: Feed budgeting, containment feeding, and pasture improvement (including conservation and grazing techniques).
- Selection for profit: Balancing genetic selection for profitability alongside phenotypic and genotypic selection of cattle.
- Preparation: Yard weaning, pre-feedlot nutrition, animal health preparation, and biosecurity.
- Data and insights: Analysis and interpretation of abattoir and feedlot data to drive decision-making.
