About the Project
UNE’s agricultural initiative, the Integrated Agricultural Education Project (IAEP), is building on UNE’s world class reputation of innovative and responsive education in agriculture and animal sciences.
To continue to provide skilled graduates into agribusiness and deliver education and research that supports vital regional industries and communities, UNE is investing in cutting edge facilities across new multi-purpose buildings, the SMART Farm Innovation Centre and the UNE Tamworth Centre.
The cutting edge facilities in the new multi-purpose building will also be accessed by industry and community stakeholders. Strong research collaborations with CRCs and CSIRO will compliment this strategic approach.
The IAEP will greatly enhance education for more than 2,000 students a year across UNE science-based courses and significantly raise numbers across all science degrees.
The expansion of these UNE facilities will support the increasing numbers of undergraduate students in this area. In particular, the IAEP will provide high quality, multi-purpose teaching laboratories. With active student recruitment into important science streams, UNE will offer labs of sufficient size for large first year units such as biology and chemistry. All lab-based courses in the School of Environmental and Rural Science will be hosted by these new UNE facilities.
UNE has recently introduced innovative degrees to address the national skills shortage in agriculture and has gone against the national trend by increasing enrolments in this area. These new degrees have been designed after extensive consultation with end users and industry stakeholders to identify graduate attributes necessary to address the requirements of employers and to support industry needs. Capitalising on core academic strengths and building on existing and new articulations and collaborations we will continue to attract new students from a wide range of backgrounds and markets to undertake studies at UNE.UNE is continually working to enhance community engagement and further increase participation rates of students, and now offers the latest technologies to equip graduates to compete in today’s knowledge economy.
