Industry Web Applications and Maps

The AARSC works with industry bodies to deliver specific crop type maps of many agricultural industries across Australia and internationally. These maps provide participating industries with an intuitive framework for the collection, collation and interrogation of essential baseline data that underpins all decision making including more accurate measures of the current and annual change in production area and distribution, improved preparedness and response to biosecurity incursions and natural disaster events, traceability, labour and infrastructure needs.

To ensure data accuracy, the maps are built from:

  • the digitisation of existing industry data;
  • remote sensing analytics (e.g. Machine Learning);
  • location- based apps to support industry participation (e.g. citizen science);
  • evaluation of additional online information (e.g. GoogleEarth Street view);
  • and extensive ground truthing.

The maps are developed and provided in ESRI software to ensure ongoing consistency, support data interoperability and to provide added data security. Note, to protect and respect grower privacy, the public versions of these maps do not contain any personal or commercial information.

These maps are built with and for industry.
