As a student you are responsible for:
- Knowing when your exam is
- Knowing where your exam is
- Being on time for your exam
- Producing photo ID (your student card, driver's licence or passport) or you will not be able to sit the exam.
If you do not present yourself for an examination and have not withdrawn from that unit, you will be deemed to have failed (NI) unless you apply for and are granted a special examination.
Examination Dates
Dates for Examination periods can be accessed via the Principal Dates page. Examination timetables are generally available online at least 8 weeks prior to each examination period.
Sitting examinations in accordance with the Examination Timetable: All students must sit their examinations as scheduled in the examination timetable. Students unable to do this may apply to the University for special examinations.
On-campus Student Examinations
On-campus students can obtain a copy of the exam timetable on the web and an exam centre form showing details of your exam will be posted to you when the exam timetable has been finalised.
On-campus students must sit their exams at UNE campus - Armidale unless they have a medical certificate or are a Graduate Diploma in Education student undertaking practical teaching work outside Armidale.
Applications for permission to sit examinations at off-campus centres should be made as soon as you are aware of this requirement.
Off-campus (external) Student Examinations
Off-campus students are advised by letter of the date, time and place of their examinations, approximately eight weeks prior to the commencement of the examination period.
Off-campus students who have not received exam notification details two weeks prior to the commencement of the examination period, should contact the Student Centre urgently.
Off-campus examinations are held at nominated centres throughout Australia and overseas. Students within Australia are required to travel up to 120 kms to an established Australian examination centre.
Overseas Costs
Students outside Australia are required to travel up to 300 kms to an overseas examination centre and are also liable for a cost of $200 per examination held. This cost covers courier, administration and supervision fees. These charges will apply from the date of dispatch of examination materials to the nominated centre. The charge will apply irrespective of whether the student sits the examination or not.
Use of Dictionaries in Examinations
Dictionaries should be free from all notes/annotations.
ELECTRONIC DICTIONARIES ARE NOT PERMITTED
Candidates whose first language is not English may be permitted the use of dictionaries in University examinations.
Please note that some examinations may preclude the use of dictionaries in general, or the use of certain kinds of dictionaries, and that any candidate using a dictionary without permission may be considered to be cheating.
Students studying languages should contact their Unit Coordinator prior to the examination to ascertain whether the use of dictionaries is permitted during the examination.
All students may use a dictionary during an Open Book examination, or where permission to use a dictionary is clearly stated on the front cover of the examination paper. Again, students should contact their Unit Coordinator to ascertain whether this will be the case.
External candidates wishing to use a dictionary are required to present their dictionary to the examination supervisor for inspection prior to the examination.
Students sitting examinations on campus are required to submit their dictionary to the Student Centre PRIOR to the first day of their examinations. These dictionaries must have a table securely fastened inside the front cover clearly indicating the date, time and venues at which they will be required, full name and student number. These dictionaries will then be provided at the relevant examination hall on campus for those students use.
Changing Your Nominated Examination Centre
You are required to attend the examination centre that you nominated when you enrolled. If you need to change your nominated examination centre, you need to notify the Student Centre as soon as possible and:
