There is an increased demand for professionals with a practical understanding of sports-related legal matters, as a result of increased global interest in sports on and off the field.
This unit will provide you with specialised knowledge of a range of contemporary legal issues associated with sport. It will also enhance your ability to think critically about policy and society in general.
Throughout this unit, you will gain advanced knowledge of a range of legal issues relating to sport in Australia, including aspects of international interest.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate specialised and advanced understanding of the common law principles and the statues that regulate sports law domestically and internationally;
- critically reflect on key concepts and theories in sports law and interpret and discuss current practice and future directions governing sports law;
- use research and established theories in identifying issues and applying the principles of sports law to provide persuasive arguments and solutions to fact-based problems which feature the competing interests of stakeholders (athletes, regulatory and governing bodies, sponsors); and
- use advanced research skills to identify, analyse, and clearly communicate complex knowledge in relation to sports law to specialist or non-specialist audiences.
