This unit is designed to provide students with the opportunity to complete an independent research project within a Master of Laws by Coursework degree.
Within your chosen topic and question, you will demonstrate your understanding of the law, legislation, case law and policy arguments, as well as develop advanced critical thinking and research skills.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- synthesise and critically analyse legislation, case law, and policy arguments, as appropriate and relevant, relating to the complexities within a specific area of law;
- identify a research topic and question, and systematically review, analyse, consolidate, justify, and synthesise relevant knowledge;
- apply a range of methods and technologies to critically analyse and evaluate information;
- conceive, plan, and implement a program of legal research using advanced legal research techniques, appropriately incorporating both domestic and international sources; and
- present, through refinement and reflection, a clear and coherent exposition of knowledge and ideas in a defensible thesis which applies legal research and legal reasoning, together with evidence of novel or independent thought.
