Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate a command and coherent understanding of the principles of Australian intellectual property law and how it is influenced by technological change; government policies based on economic and social rationales; and international treaties;
2. use autonomy, professional judgement and critical reflection to analyse and evaluate future directions and the development of policy relating to intellectual property law; consider the legal risks in using the intellectual property of others and the desirability of law reform including ongoing public policy debate and global factors impacting on intellectual property law;
3. use well-developed, autonomous judgement and research skills to produce clear and coherent written communications that are based on critical analysis, synthesis, and professional and theoretical knowledge to apply the principles of intellectual property law, and relevant regulation to formulate client based solutions, articulating appropriate actions and remedies for damage arising from infringing intellectual property rights; and
4. demonstrate advanced communication and organisation skills to apply legal reasoning, legal research and relevant theoretical knowledge to clearly articulate responses relating to intellectual property issues that include detailed critical reflection and analysis.
