The world is full of possibilities, with so much to discover and learn. There are endless opportunities to enrich your knowledge to prepare for the future, but what if you don’t want to undertake a full degree? And how can you zero-in on the subjects that matter most to you? That’s what a Non-Award with UNE will help you to achieve.

Studying a Non-Award means you can learn without the need to complete entire course requirements or take on a full course load. Whether it’s a language you want to learn, a business unit to enhance your career, an improvement of your IT skills, an update on education principles or developing your management style, Non-Award study gives you the flexibility and control to explore what matters to you.

Why study a Non-Award with UNE?

Studying a Non-Award at UNE will prepare you for a changing world by giving you the flexibility to study a specific subject without taking on a full degree. Whether you’re looking to upskill, learn for a personal interest or you plan to step up to a full course later, the flexibility of Non-Award study at UNE will help you reach your goals, in your own time.

Most units offered at UNE are available for Non-Award study. To find the unit/s you want to study, you can browse the UNE catalogue or search by keyword. You’ll find unit descriptions that provide information about where and when the unit is offered, required background knowledge, whether the unit has a mandatory or non-mandatory intensive school, textbook information and unit coordinator details.

What makes our course different?

Choose a Non-Award with UNE to:

  • Select from thousands of individual unit options across dozens of key discipline areas.
  • Learn from experienced professionals and internationally regarded researchers.
  • Experience the high level of teaching and support that has earned UNE a consistent five-star rating in the Good Universities Guide.
  • Pace your learning to suit your other commitments with most subjects available to study online.
  • Earn credit towards a further qualification with UNE or elsewhere, depending on how your study matches with your course.

UNE has been the leading innovator of flexible study for over 60 years. We are committed to helping busy adults to study from anywhere.

If you are unsure if your visa allows you to study, you can check with UNE's International Admissions team. If you hold a Student Visa you cannot study completely online; you must be enrolled as an on-campus student (although you can study a limited number of online units).

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian University.

As an international student you can take advantage of flexible online study from overseas or while you are studying in Australia on a visa other than a student visa. You can’t study fully online on a Student Visa.

To study online from overseas you need to consider that you may need to travel to Australia to attend a UNE campus for some mandatory intensive schools.

Studying on Campus

Whether you are an undergraduate student coming to study in Australia for the first time, a PhD student coming to live here with your family, or you only need short-stay accommodation whilst in Armidale for Intensive Schools, we have the perfect accommodation option for you.
