Biography

Priyantha is a Senior Lecturer in finance; and an active researcher in capital market microstructure, corporate finance and environmental finance. His expertise is primarily in microstructure, and, more specifically, his interest is in investigating investor trading behaviour around news events using intraday high-frequency trading data. Priyantha collaborates with local and international researchers and has extensive experience undertaking multi-disciplinary research. He has published in ranked finance journals, including Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, International Review of Financial Analysis, and International Journal of Managerial Finance. Priyantha has a strong background in econometrics and quantitative analysis using sophisticated statistical programming software including SAS, STAT and Python. Two of his research papers received the Best Paper awards at coveted finance conferences. Priyantha is a registered principal supervisor and has extensive knowledge and experience in supervising higher-degree research students.

He has vast knowledge and experience in coordination and teaching various undergraduate and postgraduate finance courses at Adelaide University, Curtin University and the University of South Australia. His academic leadership contributed to obtaining accreditation for finance programs and managing and mentoring teaching teams in local and overseas campuses to deliver excellence in teaching. As a staunch supporter of cutting-edge technology, Priyantha strives to use the best practices in education through a technology-led approach creating a positive learning environment that accommodates a diverse cohort of students. Priyantha is equally competent in teaching accounting, finance and financial planning courses.
