Biography

Jonathan is a Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Economics at the University of New England (UNE). He is the current Academic Coordinator for UNE Abroad and Acting School Education Committee Convenor for the UNE Business School.

He is an applied economist with active research interests in the application of bioeconomic modelling to a variety of sustainability issues in the agricultural and natural resource sectors. Recently he has been working in cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional teams on the development of policies to increase farmer resilience under low carbon futures and the modelling and management of agricultural systems for sustainable production. He has a particular interest in the capture of biological, spatio-temporal and human behavioural aspects to inform policy recommendations.

Jonathan commenced his professional life as a horticulturist before moving to a consulting firm investigating the feasibility of Indigenous development programs in northern and central Queensland.

Since commencing at UNE, he has taught in the areas of business statistics, business decision making, farm and resource management, business research, microeconomics and bioeconomics. Jonathan has received numerous awards for his personalised approaches to the student experience including an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) Citation for Education Excellence in 2020.
