Dixson Library, Museums and UNE Collections

UNE plays an important role as a repository of historical artefacts, information and teaching resources.  We are the home of the popular Heritage Centre and Dixson Library. UNE hosts world-class collections within our Museum of Antiquities and Natural History Museum.

The UNE Collections Gateway explores the rich cultural, historical, and scholarly heritage preserved across the University of New England’s three major collecting areas. Together, the Archive Collections, Library Special Collections, and the Museum of Antiquities offer access to rare and significant materials spanning regional history, global cultures, academic research, and human creativity through time.

Dixson Library holds a rich and distinctive range of rare books, manuscripts, audiovisual materials, artefacts, and ephemera that reflect the breadth of human knowledge and creativity. Our special collections span diverse subjects and periods, from medieval music manuscripts to social and political histories, to twentieth-century Australian theatre - offering valuable resources for research, teaching, and community exploration.

The UNE Natural History Museum is a library of life; a place of activity, interaction and discovery. It serves as a reminder that there is no surrogate for real things. The most sophisticated computer graphics cannot replace the sense of wonder that comes with viewing the still remains of real animals, in all their extraordinary variety.

The UNE Museum of Antiquities (UNEMA) is Australia’s first regional museum for classical antiquities. Established in 1959, its collections cover the ancient Mediterranean (Ancient Near East, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, and Rome), and material culture from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

Gifts and donations of $2 and over are tax deductible under Division 30 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. The UNE Foundation is endorsed as a Deductable Gift Recipient (DGR).
