The UNE Student Support and Emergency Assistance Funds exist to provide a vital safety net for students facing genuine financial difficulty. Whether it is an unexpected medical expense, a family crisis, or the mounting pressures of the cost of living, these funds offer timely, practical support to help students stay on track with their studies when they need it most.
“Living life is hard and I had been working full-time and studying full-time. As a mature-age student, I wasn’t eligible for other scholarships and this support relieved me of so much stress. It helped offset the costs of four weeks living in Sydney during the placement, plus the travel expenses I incurred coming back to Taree each weekend to see my family. It meant I could enjoy the experience – and knowing I had the financial support allowed me to extend the placement by a week without breaking the bank.”

“I was often still breastfeeding, so it was a case of taking my parents or parents-in-law and even my sister to Armidale for the two-week periods. You do what you do to get through, but the student bursary was extremely useful. I couldn’t stay in student accommodation, and the money helped to cover the cost of accommodation and groceries and fuel. It made it possible and a lot easier. It was also very handy when my husband had to have surgery and a couple of months off work. Without this support, I would have had to have postponed some subjects and extended my studies, and I wouldn’t have got the job I now have. I really appreciated it.”
