Program of Study

Within the Program of Study PSYC101 and PSYC102 have been moved from HSIE KLA to Science KLA to reflect that Psychology is recognised under NESA Subject Content Knowledge Requirements as being with the Science KLA.

Reference to TPA changed to GTPA

Admission Rules - Transferring students

  • A clarification of admission rules relating to students transferring from one award to another has been added. This clarification of the admission requirements, will avoid any issues of students being able to use their initial method of application to UNE as the basis for admission, when their latest studies are not meeting the admission requirements.

Progression Requirements & Exit Pathways

Students unable to pass the mandatory requirements of LANTITE clauses have been added to all ITE awards for 2021 to indicate that students unable to pass LANTITE will be transferred to a non-teaching award.  This is commensurate with the GTPA requirement which is already present.

English Specialisation

  • The requirements of the English specialisation have been amended to require the completion of at least two of ENGL101, ENGL102 and ENGL103.

Language Specialisation:

  • Amended to accommodate new NESA Subject Content Knowledge Requirements from 2019. NESA Subject Content Knowledge Requirements for Languages specify that units contributing to a Language must be completed at post-introductory level of study i.e. at 200-level and above and the Program of Study for the Languages specialisation has been amended for language beginners.
  • EDLA489 Teaching Pronunciation has been removed from the prescribed section of this program and moved to section/s for student completing the continuers or advanced languages.
  • Continuers have their own section of additional prescribed units where   EDLA489 Teaching Pronunciation is prescribed
  • Advanced have their own section of additional prescribed units which confirms that they also complete EDLA489 Teaching Pronunciation and EDUC456 Reflective Practitioner 1 as part of their prescribed units for the specialisation.
  • The listed unit section of this specialisation contains a new explanatory note about how beginners complete their 12 cps of 100 level units in first year and then must complete 24 cps in one language from the listed units.   The new note also confirms that continuers who only complete the second 100 level unit must still complete 24 cps in one language from the listed unit in this program.

The course plans for candidates in beginner’s language have been amended.

From 2018, all initial teacher education students must pass the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students prior to their final professional placement; students must also pass a Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) during the final professional experience placement.
