Course Rules - Advanced Standing:

Advanced Standing has been changed to the following:

Candidates admitted under Rule (a) shall be granted a maximum of 96 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. Up to a further 48 credit points may be granted based on undergraduate Early Childhood units that were not part of the AQF Level 5 Diploma studies/approved Early Childhood work experience on which admission was based. Such study must be deemed equivalent to units at 300-or 400-level.

Candidates admitted under Rule (b) shall be granted a maximum of 144 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. Up to a further 24 credit points may be granted based on Early Childhood units that were not part of the degree on which admission was based. Such study must be deemed equivalent to units at 300-or 400-level.

Note changes to Advanced Standing for 2020.

Current students will be able to complete under current rules and may enrol in the new units if they wish or transfer subject to meeting new course requirements.

For candidates admitted under Rule (a):

In 2019 students admitted under rule (a) must enrol in only the unit EDEC310 in their first Trimester of study in this course.  The course plans for rule (a) students reflect this enrolment pattern. The course rules, at the course progression section confirm that: Any candidate who has failed to pass the unit EDEC310 Professionals in Early Childhood Education after two attempts will be asked to show cause why their candidature should not be discontinued.

Candidates admitted under rule (b) do not study the unit EDEC310 as part of their course and are not impacted by the above changes accordingly – the rule (b) program of study and course plans are unchanged from 2018.

Candidates in pre-2019 course rules may complete in their current rules or apply to transfer to the current rules.

Professional Experience:

  • In line with ACECQA accreditation requirements, students admitted under Rule (a) must now complete a minimum of sixty days Professional Experience, and those admitted under Rule (b) must complete a minimum of thirty days Professional Experience.  All Professional Experience must be completed in ACECQA-approved settings.

Core Units:

  • EDEC424 title changed to Leadership Interactions in Early Childhood
  • EDEC354 has been withdrawn and replaced with EDEC355 – Young Children as Mathematicians: PrEx 10 days
