Program of Study

  • The general program of listed units has been removed and two new Minors: ‘Disability and Mental Health’ and ‘Criminal Corrections’ have been added.
  • Units prefixed with HSHM have been removed (except for HSHM200 Leadership, Teams and Decision Making)

Majors changed to Minors

  • To meet the University Course Design Framework (CDF) credit point requirements for majors and minors, the specialisations referred to, pre-CDF update, as ‘majors’ have been amended to align with the CDF’s 24cp definition for minors. The minors include a capstone unit (HLTH305) that will be focused on the specialisation.

Minors (replacing pre-CDF Majors) have been amended for: Aboriginal Community Care; Aged Care; Children and Young People.

Admission Pathway

  • Rule (c) admission to the Bachelor of Community Services is to be removed
  • A new Rule (c) admission pathway will be added to allow for the direct admission of those students who have completed the Diploma in Community Welfare and Wellbeing, who will obtain advanced standing for the first year of the BCS.

Advanced Standing

  • Advanced Standing has been updated for Rule (c) to reflect the 48 credit points of advanced standing granted for students that have completed the Diploma in Community Welfare and Wellbeing.

Period of Candidature

  • Period of Candidature updated for Rule (c) to reflect the advanced standing of 48 credit points for students that have completed the Diploma in Community Welfare and Wellbeing from UNE.

Course Duration

  • Course Duration updated to reflect that a student could complete the Bachelor of Community Services, under Rule (c) in 2 years.

The Bachelor of Community Services is offered in 2018

There have been significant changes to the Bachelor of Community Services in 2018. There are now only two Admission Pathways: candidates may enter with 36 cps as an articulation through a Registered Training Organisation - Rule (a) or through a general admission program - Rule (b).

Candidates complete one of four Majors or the General Program.

The course incorporates 400 hours of supervised professional fieldwork: HLTH201 has 150 hours; HLTH301 has 250 hours.

Core units: Credit points have changed from 72 cps to 84 cps including 400 hours field experience

  • HDCM314, HSCS333 have been moved from Listed to Core Units
