Admission

Admission rules amended to accommodate new requirement.

Progression and Enrolment

Note changes to admission, progression and conduct rules.

Rules Variation Summary for 2023

Summary of Changes for 2023

Implications for current Master of Teaching (Primary) students

Overview: Added content to the overview indicating that this course is undergoing routine re-accreditation and is subject to change. Additionally, moved employment information to professional Recognition as per all other ITE awards.

AHEGS: added content that was missing relating to pathways for further study.

Offering Changes: As per the Master of Teaching Course Review Recommendation 2.1, the MTCHPM ON Offering have been removed. There have been no new ON degree enrolments since 2018. Historically to 2015 approx 2.5 over the period 2015-2022. Maintaining the ON offering and advertising this to students is not conducive to a well-rounded ON campus experience when the maximum class load would be two students in any one unit. As this award is not offered to International students, this does not affect international opportunities. Removing the On Campus award offering does not preclude students from enrolling in units On campus that may be offered as such due to the unit appearing in other awards in ON mode.

Professional Recognition: Updated content to reflect all ITE courses in Education, including teacher registration information with NESA and employment body information.

Course Aim: the course aim has been updated to remove the graduate attributes (duplicated in another section) and align with accreditation.

Program of Study:

  • EDEE351, EDEE352, EDEE553 added.
  • EDEE500, EDEE328, EDEE329 removed.

Progress and Conduct: Amendments have been made to the Progress and Conduct clauses as per documentation supplied to NESA for re-accreditation which is related to completing LANTITE and GTPA (mandatory requirements)

Exit Pathways: Exit pathways have been updated to reflect all opportunities and to clarify the re-admission process required if a student does exit.

Note changes to overview, offering changes, course aim, program of study, progress and conduct and exit pathways

Rules Variation Summary for 2022

Summary of Changes for 2022

Implications for current Master of Teaching (Primary) students

Program of Study

The requirement to complete the LANTITE and GTPA which is common across all ITE awards, regardless of Undergraduate or Graduate level, was missing from the Master of Teaching (Primary) Program of Study. This requirement does appear elsewhere but for consistency purposes across all ITE awards these requirements have been added to the Program of Study.

Admission Rules - Addition of award restriction

Following cases of students attempting and being permitted to undertake the Master of Teaching (Primary) upon completion of the Master of Teaching (Secondary) or vice versa, an Admission rule restriction has been added. The appropriate award for an applicant to undertake once they obtain an ITE qualification is the Bachelor of Education (In-Service Conversion). Undertaking the alternative Master of Teaching Award is not appropriate as it structure for ITE students, not graduates.

Admission - GPA Increase

Following recommendation 2.2 of the Master of Teaching Course Review to increase the GPA admission requirement from 3.5 to 4.0, this has been actioned in the amendment. This will now be commensurate with our competitors.

Admission Rules - Transferring students

Following an increase in student being admitted to ITE awards who have a GPA from their latest course attempt that is not equivalent to either the GPA or ATAR conversion of their GPA a clarification of admission rules relating to students transferring from one award to another has been added. This clarification of the admission requirements, will avoid any issues of students being able to use their initial method of application to UNE as the basis for admission, when their latest studies are not meeting the admission requirements.

Reference to TPA changed to GTPA

Changes have been made throughout the course where references were made to the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) which has been changed to the Graduate Teaching Performance Assessment in 2021.

Progression Requirements & Exit Pathways

Students unable to pass the mandatory requirements of LANTITE clauses have been added to all ITE awards for 2021 to indicate that students unable to pass LANTITE will be transferred to a non-teaching award.  This is commensurate with the GTPA requirement which is already present.

International Students

The Master of Teaching (Primary) does not have an admission pathway for International students so references to this have been removed throughout.

A section has been added about Child Protection Awareness Training.

The Fit For Practice information has been updated.

Professional Placements section has been updated with sections such as: students must read and adhere to the Professional Experience policy of the School of Education; the sentence about the LANTITE has listed out its full name; and a sentence for international students or student studying overseas about the mandatory Australian setting for placements has been added.

The Progress and Conduct section has been updated and now also includes an additional sentence confirming candidates unable to pass the TPA being transferred to another (non-teaching course).

The Course Requirements section has been updated to detail the full name of the LANTITE that must be passed to qualify for the award at rule number 2 and to add a new requirement at rule number 3 that candidates pass the TPA in their final professional experience placement to qualify for the award.

  • EDEE500 title changed to   Literacies and Numeracies in Context
  • EDSP500 has been removed
  • EDSP510 Educating Students in Inclusive Environments: PrEx 30 days has been added

Course Aims: Amended to align with other Education courses at UNE.

Candidates under pre-2018 rules may complete under their current rules, although they will be required to complete a Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) in their final Professional Experience Placement as per the most recent advice from the accrediting body.

Candidates under 2016 and 2017 course rules who have not completed EDSP500 should transfer to the 2018 course rules. Candidates who have completed EDSP500 should remain in their current course rules and complete the embedded professional experience and the TPA in PREX560.

Candidates under 2015 or earlier course rules may be disadvantaged if they choose to change to 2018 rules due to the nature of the changes to the course for 2018 and it is noted that they will complete the embedded professional experience and the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) in EDCX504 or EDCX502.

The School has contacted all currently enrolled students to advise of the change to 2018 and the retrospective nature of the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA).
