Advanced Standing

There has been a change to the Advanced Standing for the Graduate Diploma in Counselling.

  • Candidates admitted under Rule (a) and (e) are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
  • Candidates admitted under Rule (b) shall be granted 24 credit points of Specified Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature for units HSCS333, HSCS338, HSCS435 and HSCS452.
  • Candidates admitted under Rule (c) will be granted 24 credit points of Specified Advanced Standing for the Mental Health Practice Pathway based on their admission to candidature for units HLTH421, HLTH422, HLTH423 and HLTH424.
  • Candidates admitted under Rule (d) who have completed a Graduate Diploma, Masters or Doctorate may be granted a maximum of 24 credit points of Advanced Standing based on their Admission to Candidature.

Admission to candidature

A candidate shall:
(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification; or

(b) hold the 2021 onwards Bachelor of Psychological Science (Counselling major) from UNE; or

(c) hold the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice from UNE or the Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice from UNE; or

(d) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or AQF Level 9 Masters or AQF Level 10 Doctorate degree in any relevant* discipline; or

(e) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant* professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s and a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant* professional experience and training undertaken in the past 10 years.

Period of candidature

(a) For candidates admitted under Rules (a), (d) and (e), the period of candidature shall be up to four years as a part-time candidate.

(b) For candidates admitted under Rules (b) and (c), the period of candidature shall be up to two years as a part-time candidate.
