Students and their futures matter, first

UNE students have been named number one for experiences and outcomes according to News Corp’s ultimate universities guide, published today to coincide with the release of student results across the state.

UNE Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Moran said that the student is at the centre of all UNE’s planning and prioritisation, and UNE's people focus on kindness so that students have positive interactions at all levels.

“Our students have given UNE a five-star rating for overall student experience for an incredible 20 years in a row, through the Good Universities Guide. This rating comes direct from our own students and proves that students who come to UNE will have a great experience,” Professor Moran said.

“UNE students not only have a great experience and a high graduate salary, data shows the UNE alumni community produces the highest rate of CEOs of all the nation's public universities.

“Compared to rankings that rate universities for themselves with variables related to the size of institutions, the News Corp ranking has looked at student experience and outcomes, and we are best in the country for students!”

The News Corp guide is based on 2024 QILT data (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching). They are a suite of government endorsed surveys for higher education, across the student life cycle from commencement to employment. QILT makes available robust, nationally consistent performance data for Australian higher education, helping drive quality improvement.

“School leavers across the country are receiving their results this week, and I want to congratulate them for all their hard work over the years of schooling.  For students without a suitable ATAR, it’s important to know that UNE has pathway programs that quickly make them university-ready. Many students who have not been high achievers in the school environment have proven to be very successful at university,"  Professor Moran said.

“It is not just the New England region. From Katherine and Kalgoorlie to Kangaroo Island, from Adelaide to Canberra, from western Sydney to western Queensland, our students have the opportunity and the tools to succeed wherever they are.  UNE has specialised in distance education for 71 years; we are very good at it and our digital-first AI-leading approach to learning is making us even better.

"And if you want to study on campus, we are offering the first trimester in our colleges at no cost. Come and try it!

"So, we are telling students: learn where you need to be, and don’t worry about having to be in one place while you earn your degree. We’ll get you there, whether you’re near or far," he said.
