UNE Alumni, Emma Rowles, Principal of legal practice Winter Legal, wins two more Business Awards this year.

Emma has been winning Business Awards with her legal practice, Winter Legal, since 2020, when she won the Local Business Awards. She has regularly been a Finalist in a variety of business awards each year; however, this year has been a standout year.

This year Emma has been recognised as a Finalist in the Local Business Awards, Gender Equity Awards, Business NSW Awards, Australian Small Business Champion Awards and Business Xcellence Awards.

In addition to these Finalist places, Emma has also won two Business Awards, the 2025 APAC Insider Legal Awards Wills & Estates Lawyer of the Year (NSW) Award and the 2025 ALIBI Earth Keeper Award.

The APAC Legal Awards is an Awards program that recognises the legal industry’s finest across the Asia-Pacific region who are shaping the future of law with excellence, innovation, and resilience. The ALIBI Awards recognise the hard work and achievements of ladies in business across Australia. ALIBI stands for Australian Ladies in Business Initiative. They strive to empower and uplift women entrepreneurs across Australia.

Emma’s legal practice, Winter Legal, exclusively practises in Estate Administration (commonly referred to as Probate) and Estate Litigation. Emma’s practice has grown from a small office in the Hawkesbury to offices in Sydney and Newcastle. Emma said the formula to her success is, “Dedication to client satisfaction. I am directly contactable, flexible with meetings, offer free consultations, do not require funds upfront and offer No Win No Fee. I have over 75 reviews and a 5-star Google rating. I also have a one hundred percent success rate in litigation.” Emma also said, “I love what I do. I think when you love what you do, you become very good at it. One of my favourite quotes is, ‘Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life”.

“I love what I do. I think when you love what you do, you become very good at it.

Emma is extremely passionate about the environment, and this carries over into her legal practice. Winter Legal participates in numerous environmental events and always prioritises the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. In Emma’s spare time, she also enjoys advocating for positive changes in relation to recycling. Emma said, “Another of my favourite quotes is, ‘The one who plant trees, knowing that he or she will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.’ I want to know that I did everything I could for our future generations”.

Emma completed a Bachelor Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at UNE. Emma’s favourite subjects were Jurisprudence and Advanced Legal Research, Legal Writing & Drafting, and Advocacy (as it was then known). Emma said, “Jurisprudence was so interesting. It broadened my mind and made me look at law in a whole new way” and “LS480 was invaluable for practise, it taught me skills that I still think about regularly in my practise.”
