UNE and TRC call for community champions

The new Implementation Group will replace the existing Tamworth University Steering Group and the Tamworth Aboriginal Working Group as the project moves into the next phase.

The Implementation Group, which includes the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of TRC, will play an important role in the implementation and initiation of the new Tamworth Campus.

UNE Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Moran thanked all community members who have played a role in consultation on the Tamworth Campus.

“There have been a number of working groups providing valuable input into the design and development of the campus, and I am very grateful for all their advice that has brought us to this point.

“I am pleased that the UNE Tamworth Campus has progressed where the design is close to complete, the planning processes are underway and we can move to start the discussion on implementation.

“What we need now are two community champions to be part of bringing this campus to life, and to help keep their communities informed. I am excited that we are getting closer and I want to bring Tamworth along with me.”

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb said the UNE Tamworth Campus has progressed to an exciting and critical phase.

“We have seen some great efforts from local advocates to get the Tamworth Campus to this point and I am confident there will be strong interest in being part of a new group to see this project through,” he said.

Expressions of Interest for membership of the Implementation Group should be addressed to Associate Professor Melanie Fillios, UNE Director Place Based Education and Research by Friday 14th June (mfillio2@une.edu.au). The EOI should include a short statement on why you would like to be a part of the Group and what you would like to contribute. Representatives are sought from business, education and indigenous communities of Tamworth, as well as current university students.

The first meeting of the new Implementation Group will be 21st June.
