Chancellors Report
VC recruitment update
Over the course of the last two months the VC Selection Panel has worked with Perrett Laver recruitment agency and convened on three occasions to support the incoming Vice-Chancellor & CEO selection process.
Concurrent to this, UNE staff were invited to respond to an anonymous survey prepared and administered by Perrett Laver to feedback what was important to them in terms of future leadership and the Vice-Chancellor role. Additionally, the VC Selection Committee, in meetings facilitated by Perrett Laver, have meet with representative groups from the Professoriate and Professional Staff to provide input and hear first-hand the criteria they felt was critical to the role of the new Vice-Chancellor & CEO.
The VC Selection Committee will continue to work with Perrett Laver as they engage with potential candidates for the role, and we will provide future updates to the university community regarding progress around this appointment.
Council were updated on recent Campus events:
- Orientation Commencement Ceremony - A signature event in the learning journey of every UNE student is the Orientation Week Commencement Ceremony, which marks the University’s official welcome to on-campus students. Robed in graduand gowns, approximately 600 first year students were welcomed to the University at this ceremony held in Campbell Hall at Sports UNE on Monday 20 February at 10.00am.
- College Commencement Dinners - The Chancellor was honoured to be able to attend three out of the six annual College Commencement Dinners held by College Heads from the 8 – 16 March, 2023. In his welcome addresses the Chancellor acknowledged that Colleges are not only places where lifelong friendships and cherished memories are forged but that they also play a very importance role in attaining academic success at UNE and building community and networks, which allow graduates to prosper in their pursuits outside of College and in their lives beyond university.
March Updates
Universities Accord
Council received an update on the Universities Accord process and the main themes of UNE’s submission. The Accord Panel is visiting Armidale in April and conducting regional-themed workshops, inviting Regional VCs and industry.
Tamworth
Council were updated on the progress of the UNE Tamworth Campus, where an architect and project manager have been appointed. Project User Groups will now be established.
Governance Focus
Council received an update on the development of the Terms of Reference for the Standing Committee of Convocation and discussed the proposed makeup of the Committee. Terms of Reference will be published once they have been reviewed and approved by Council.
The next Council meeting is in May 2023.
