Calling all kids who love to colour

Published 17 February 2022

The Dynamic Lagoons colouring-in competition is open to all Australian children and uses visual art and creativity to explore and develop a deeper understanding and awareness of upland wetland ecosystems and environmental issues.

Dynamic Lagoons team member, Dr Debbie Bower, a conservation biologist and restoration ecologist who specialises in wetland reptiles and amphibians, urged kids to enter.

“Not only will you learn interesting facts about upland wetlands and their ecology, all winners will receive gift vouchers and have their artwork published on our website and social media,” Dr Bower said.

“When you are colouring-in the picture of an Upland Lagoon, you will discover the excitement of wetland ecology with birds, frogs and turtles swimming under the water, and a magnifying glass showing a carnivorous plant called a bladderwort eating an insect”

The competition is divided into four age groups: 0-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. There will be one first, second and third place winner in each age group.

Entries close Thursday 24 February and the winners will be announced at the World Wetland Day Event at Little Llangothlin Lagoon on Saturday, 26th February.

First-place winners will receive a gift voucher valued at $50, second and third place winners will receive a gift voucher valued at $10. All winners will also receive a certificate of congratulations, a Paula Peters Dynamic Lagoons colouring-in book (once published) and an Australian Geographic Prehistoric Water World book.

In addition, all first, second and third place winners will have their artwork published on the Dynamic Lagoons website and social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter), and in UNE’s e-newsletter Pulse.
