Fancy a pint of science alongside your regular tipple? Want to learn more about your health, our planet and technology? Then head on down to the Armidale Golf Club on 20, 21 and 22 May to quench your thirst for knowledge.

Pint of Science, a global event that originated in the United Kingdom six years ago, will feature the best and brightest of the University of New England’s scientists talking about their latest research and findings.

Co-organiser and researcher in animal behaviour and ecology, Dr James O’Hanlon, says presenters are excited about the opportunity to showcase their work.

“Pint of Science is all about having researchers connect with their local community in a familiar, relaxed setting – the pub. It about research happening in our backyard,” Dr O’Hanlon said.

“The speakers are from a range of disciplines and each night will focus on a different theme, ranging across different topics such as health, our planet and technology.”

Monday night’s theme, Healthy me: living longer and loving it, confirms that yes, we are what we eat…and do. It also takes a look at kidney function and the life expectancy of people living with a disability.

Tuesday night explores our beautiful planet – revealing the secrets hidden in ancient South Australian rocks and taking a look at how ecosystems keep us alive.

Pint of Science concludes on Wednesday night with Fields of Technology: from farming to footy. On offer is a behind-the-scenes look at modern elite sporting teams, as well as how technology has transformed precision agriculture.

Pint of Science began in the United Kingdom in 2013 and has grown to 24 countries this year. It offers the public opportunity to out find how the science of today is affecting lives tomorrow.
